- This module aims to further establish key processes, skills and methodologies fundamental to photographic activity.
The purpose of photography can vary depending on what the photographer is trying to achieve. For example, documentary and news photographers capture images for the purpose of providing detailed account of actual events, while hobbyist photographers aim to capture life moments with their families and friends. They’re quicker and easier to use, not to mention their seamless integration with social media. It only makes sense to get a dedicated camera if your phone isn’t good enough for the photos you want (like photographing sports or low-light environments) or if you’re specifically interested in photography as a hobby.
Tourism and photography combine to create a “tourist gaze”in which local inhabitants are positioned and defined by the camera lens. However, it has also been argued that there exists a “reverse gaze” through which indigenous photographees can position the tourist photographer as a shallow consumer of images. Wildlife photography involves capturing images of various forms of wildlife. Unlike other forms of photography such as product or food photography, successful wildlife photography requires a photographer to choose the right place and right time when specific wildlife are present and active. It often requires great patience and considerable skill and command of the right photographic equipment.

It has inspired movements, acts of compassion, empathy and change. Investigations of identity and community are at the heart of the stories we tell at British Journal of Photography. A panorama — or panoramic photo — is usually made by stitching several pictures taken with the same camera into one.
Digital cameras use an electronic image sensor based on light-sensitive electronics such as charge-coupled device or complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology. The resulting digital image is stored electronically, but can be reproduced on a paper. The camera is the image-forming device, and a photographic plate, photographic film or a silicon electronic image sensor is the capture medium. The respective recording medium can be the plate or film itself, or a digital magnetic or electronic memory. More than 99% of photographs taken around the world are through digital cameras, increasingly through smartphones.
Discover how to create amazing photographs by adjusting focus, exposure, and white balance settings. The modernist period tended to be media-specific, where artists worked primarily in a single medium, such as painting or sculpture. However, social and political changes in the 1960s resulted in a shift towards social considerations in art in general and a reconsideration of photography as an artistic medium.
